What is the Florida State Beekeepers Association?
The Florida State Beekeepers Association (FSBA) is a Florida Not For Profit Organization that consists of many volunteers who addresses issues from beekeeper legislative issues to funding research for honey bee preservation and diseases prevention.

What should I expect the Fees now that the plate is available?
The annual renewal fee will be $33.00 plus any convenience fee applicable with renewing on line.

What is the yearly cost for a specialty plate?
Once you have switched to the new specialty plate, the cost will be the annual renewal fee plus the specialty plate fee will be $33.00. If renewing on line, there may be a convenience fee charge.

Are there vehicles that cannot use a specialty plate?
Yes. The following vehicle cannot obtain a specialty plate. Commercial trucks required to have front and rear plates, truck tractors, government vehicles, commercial trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 26,001 pounds or greater. Motorcycles and Handicap plates cannot have the specialty plate incorporated.

Why do I have to pay extra every year for a specialty license plate?
The purpose of specialty license plates is to raise funds for a particular cause. The use of a specialty license plate is a voluntary purchase and can be discontinued at any time.

Where does the money for specialty license plates go?
Of the $33.00 charge for the plate, $25.00 will go directly to the Florida State Beekeeper Association (FSBA) who will in turn provide financial support for honey bee research as well as provide grants for education and support local bee clubs. Chapter 320.08058, Florida Statutes, provides direction to the department regarding the distribution of specialty license plate funds. The department provides a Monthly Revenue Collections Report with additional information.

October 29, 2025 Update on SAVE THE BEE Plate!!

The plates have been manufactured and will be shipped to four distribution centers across Florida on October 30th and 31st. Subsequently, these distribution centers will disseminate the plates to local tag/ tax collectors' offices throughout Florida, a process expected to take approximately 7-10 days.

Once the plates are available, individuals can redeem their vouchers or purchase the SAVE THE BEE plate. The plates are anticipated to arrive at tag offices by November 12th.

To redeem vouchers, the following information is required: The voucher can be redeemed at any tax collector's office or license plate agency in Florida.

It is suggested that customers contact their tax collector in advance to confirm receipt of the specialty license plate.

The customer is not required to provide the voucher receipt when redeeming the voucher. 

To initiate the redemption process, inform the clerk of your intention to redeem the voucher for the new specialty license plate, providing your name, driver's license number, license plate number, or the voucher receipt.

For those interested in obtaining a customized plate, online ordering is now available. You will not be receiving any notifications from the state that the plate is now available, it’s the responsibility of FSBA’s to inform everyone!!

WE DID IT!!!, and now up to 6,000 plates on the roads

We need to keep a minimum of 3,000 plates on vehicles.
  The 1st 3,000 registered plates milestone is September 2027.
However we have a goal of 6,000 by September of 2026
